McKay Village at Northern Arizona University

Flagstaff, Arizona

Client: Northern Arizona University
Acres: 8.3
Units: 144 (444 Beds)
Density: 53.49 Beds/Acre
Status: Complete

Nestled into the pines of Flagstaff, Arizona, McKay Village has become the cornerstone for quality student housing at Northern Arizona University. Spanning 8.3 acres, the site plan sensitively positions three of the seven buildings on the sloping portion of the site in order to retain existing mature pine trees and views to the San Francisco Peaks. The remaining four buildings and a recreation building form the central open-space quadrangle for the project. This 444-bed community is comprised of 144 two, three and four-bedroom luxury apartments with private bathrooms and living spaces.

The contextual setting of this community prompted a broader look at the campus beyond the immediate project site. The site plan and the community’s quadrangle accommodate cross-pedestrian traffic from adjacent dormitories to the Pedestrian Walkway which runs north/south through the campus. The centrally located clubhouse with a small convenience store welcomes passersby’s on the bordering Ped Way.
