The Terraces originally opened in 1963 as Orangewood Retirement Community. In 2000, only 50 percent of the community’s resident rooms were occupied. To remain competitive in the current marketplace, the owner, American Baptist Homes of the West, realized that their only option was to update the campus.

The first phase of this multi-phase redevelopment required that nearly two-thirds of the community’s structures be demolished to make way for 124 new independent living units, 74 assisted living units and a 64-bed skilled nursing facility. Subsequent phases consisted of six additional independent living garden suites and new 38-unit independent living building.

Later phases will eventually replace all the community’s original structures. The campus’ new living areas feature spacious one- and two-bedroom apartment homes that incorporate large floor plans with abundant storage space, patios, washers and dryers, well-appointed kitchens and adaptable design that allows the units to be reconfigured as residents’ mobility needs change.
