St. Mary’s High School

Phoenix, Arizona

Client: Catholic Diocese of Phoenix
Grades 9-12
Acres: 6.55-acre master plan
Size: 81,000 sq. ft. Renovation/Expansion
Status: Complete

At the inception of the project, initial needs assessments were made for St. Mary’s High School, resulting in the site and master plan design for the relocation of the high school. Existing buildings on the new site were remodeled including classrooms, a computer laboratory, art rooms, teachers’ lounge and bookstore.

Phase II included new construction of a 46,000 sq. ft. building for administration office, library, chapel, science labs, classrooms, cafeteria/kitchen and outdoor amphitheater. This phase was completed on an accelerated, six-month construction schedule, while school was in session. Approximately $300,000 was saved by developing a multi-level/multi-use building design with a basement-level cafeteria.

A long-range high school master plan was completed with a goal of accommodating 1,000 students on the campus. Subsequent phases include the renovation of the existing gymnasium, cafeteria, one-story classroom building and the addition of a 35,000 sq. ft. two-story visual and performing arts classroom building.
